Introduction in CHINA
D twyler Cables+Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is a 100% foreign invested company by Dtwyler Cables a unit of Dtwyler Switzerland Inc. which is a first-class structured cabling system company in the world. Our major business is producing and selling data cables and selling complementary supported products for structured cabling systems. We have advanced production facilities and a strong management model. Our production facilities use world class twisted pair production line equipment, which are imported from France, Germany and Switzerland. These assure our product quality, and our production capacity, which ensures, we completely meet the customer’s requirements. Dtwyler Cables+Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. produces and supplies Unilan® series of Cat.5e, Cat.6 shielded and unshielded, Cat.7 and fiber optic system solutions. The whole production process of Dtwyler Cables +Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. has gained the certification of ISO9001-2000, and the products have passed the international certificate authority such as UL, 3P etc, our products have also passed the product inspection of the China authority Ministry of Information Industry Data Communication Product Quality Supervision and Testing Center. Dtwyler Cables +Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is the first company in China which obtained the Network Access certificate of National Defense Communication among all the comprehensive cabling companies in China.
D twyler Establishment in CHINA
In 1998 Dtwyler entered into a Joint Venture agreement with Jiangsu Zhongtian, a leading China cable manufacturing company at that time, with a view to produce Dtwyler cables to service the China Market.
In 2001 the Joint Venture agreement was dissolved and Dtwyler Switzerland took 100% ownership and formed a Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise (WOFE), Dtwyler Cables+Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. At the same time the factory was relocated from Nantong to the current facility in Shanghai.
Dtwyler Development in CHINA
During the period 1998 until 2006 the Chinese Economy has shown strong growth. This growth was also applicable for the cabling industry in China. The growth was not only in volume but also in product range. The introduction of higher quality products such as Cat. 5 and Cat. 5e and the Cat. 6 products meant the China market was seen as a very good fit with Dtwyler products and expertise.
During this time Dtwyler Cables+Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. grew and by 2006 had captured approximately 4% market share.
The production facility has been fully established and has now a capacity to produce in excess of 44’500 kilometers of cable per year. The facility is ISO9001certified. The company currently employs 80 persons of which 20 persons are dedicated to sales.
Dtwyler Cables+Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. has made penetration into the mayor cities in China. Offices have been established in Shanghai (Head office & production facility), Beijing, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Xi’an.
The company has developed and operates in China via a number of selected distributors and sales agents. This follows the strategy of a global company with local sales which are close to local customers.
The cable market in CHINA-the future
The cable market in China is still expected to grow at 14% compound average growth rate per year.
Currently, there is a strong push in the cable market in China for higher technically rated products such as Cat. 6, Cat. 6e and we are seeing a demand for Cat. 7 and fiber optic product. The Dtwyler Shanghai Company is well placed to service these higher rated products demands. Dtwyler as a global company produces and markets these high end products for some time and is therefore well versed with them. The development of the China market strongly matches the strategy of the Dtwyler Cable Division to be a strong system and solution provider. The Dtwyler Shanghai Company also follows this strategy.
The strong market and market trends in China provide a strong platform for the Shanghai Company to increase its China domestic sales volume.
Dtwyler Preparing for the future in CHINA
The Dtwyler Shanghai Company currently has a sales mix which is based on domestic sales and export sales. This ratio is currently 60% Domestic and 40% Export. Our focus for the future is growth of the China domestic sales.
With the focus on expanding the China domestic sales there is a requirement to fully embrace the concept of becoming a full scale system and solution provider. This requires that we continually update our product range to ensure we offer our clients a value add solution.
We will further enhance our already excellent quality and testing facilities to ensure the quality of Dtwyler and Dtwyler supplied products. As a Swiss company quality is heavily imbedded in our culture. This is especially important as we see the China market demanding more technically advanced quality products. In addition to the improved testing facilities we are currently also improving the technical skills and training programs for our sales and customer support engineers. This is extremely important as our staff must also be able to keep pace with the market requirements.
In 2008, we will also see an expansion in our sales coverage in China as we embrace regions we currently do net service. To achieve this we will increase our own sales force and at the same time expand and enhance our distributor and agent network. To support this we will enhance and strengthen our support functions.
At the beginning of 2007 and as part of the global review of the Dtwyler Cables Division the Shanghai – China operation was restructured and an Interim Management team was installed to lead the company. The restructuring aimed to consolidate the company and to accelerate the penetration into the China market. By the end of 2007 the turnover has been completed and the company is now well positioned for the future.
As of November 1, 2007 a permanent local Management Team has been installed to replace the Interim Management. The company is now entering a new phase and will further accelerate the business strategy. |

Dr. Pu Xiaoping – General Manager
Dr. Pu Xiaoping has been appointed as General Manager. Dr. Pu has worked in a large multinational company for more than 13 years. He has gained solid experience in sales and marketing, production, quality assurance and engineering, services. He is familiar with and has operated as a General Manager for a number of years. He is not only specialized in product sales but also in system and solution sales in the automation and construction industries. Dr. Pu is eager to contribute his knowledge and experience to Dtwyler the future growth of in China.

Yu Helen – Finance and Administration Manager
Ms. Yu Helen will act as a strong Finance and Administration Manager. Yu Helen. Ms. Yu spent 8 years of her life in Germany. During this time she finalized her studies as an economist. Once back in China she worked for international companies and has acquired 8 years of experience as Finance and Administration. We are delighted to welcome Mrs. Yu in our company where she will have an important role to play in order to assure the future success of Dtwyler in China.

Projects in CHINA
Yinchuan Administrative Center Project
In 2005, with the advantage of high-performance cable system, Dtwyler Shanghai won the comprehensive cabling part of Yinchuan City Administrative Center Project after fierce competition.
Yinchuan, capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, one of the most well-known beautiful historical cities in China, is located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River in north-west China.
As a significant “image” project of Yinchuan municipal government, Yinchuan Administrative Center is located in the north side of People Square in New Town of Yinchuan. The total construction area of the building of administrative center is more than 80,000 ㎡.
Considering the end user’s requirement for a state-of-the-art system, reliability, environment protection, fire-resistance and security, the planning engineers decided on Dtwyler's Unilan Cat. 6 shielded system solution for the imposing administrative center building. The Unilan shielded Modular Solution comprises, in addition to very stable Uninet 6002 Cat.6 4P FTP FR/LSOH, patch panels, patch cords and 10 gigabit multi-mode optical fiber cables. Approximately 10000 outlets ensure that the building of the administrative centre has the flexibility in all situations and for extensions to the network in the future.

Future-Proof Cabling for Shanghai Seaport
The new Yangshan seaport is one of the largest prestige projects in the greater Shanghai area, Dtwyler cabling systems are installed in the control center of the port. At the beginning of December 2005, the first part of this gigantic infrastructure project was opened. The first five docking places for large freight ships added an annual capacity of 3 million standard containers at 6 m length each.
Largest Container Port of the World
At its completion in the year 2020, the Yangshan seaport will offer space for the simultaneous loading and unloading of 50 container ships of the fifth and sixth generation. This will correspond to an annual capacity of 20 million standard containers and will provide Shanghai with the largest container freight port in the world. The Yangshan seaport is being constructed approximately 30km offshore from Shanghai near two small lands. The connection to the mainland is provided by a 32 km long bridge with six lanes (three lanes in each direction). |
Futuristic Control Centre
This imposing port installation is controlled from a futuristic control centre. This was designed to handle the full capacity of the port and is equipped with the most modern electronic facilities and a powerful data network, Special importance was attributed to investment protection due to the long planning horizon of the Yangshan port. In order to satisfy current and future needs and applications, the planning engineers decided on the Dtwyler “Unilan Modular Solution”. This comprises patch panels, patch cables and connecting boxes, in addition to very stable Category 6 copper data cables, Data, telephone and video is run over the same cabling system. Approximately 5000 connecting boxes and over 300kilometers of Dtwyler data cables ensure that the control centre has the necessary flexibility in all situations. |
